Before there were Facebook and Twitter, e-mail, and cell phones, there was a real-time, face-to-face conversation where ideas were presented, positions debated, solutions brainstormed.
Beyond our destination website, Harlem World Magazine offers Harlem World Magazine Events, a suite of free events designed to promote public discourse and civic engagement throughout Harlem. It’s our attempt to bring people together in real-time to learn, engage, and renew.
Each year we host a number of on-the-record, open-to-the-public live Harlem World Events — on college campuses, in community centers and everywhere in between — at which public officials, policy wonks, and newsmakers answer for the work they’re doing and how they’re spending your tax dollars.
Events are often available via Livestream video, for those who can’t attend in person, and following the conversation, we publish and archive video online. Our signature event Harlem World Talks and our new annual event, the Harlem World Magazine Summit + Benefit, attracts thousands of attendees to Harlem to learn about Harlem’s biggest challenges and to engage in thoughtful discussion about their respective solutions.
Decision-makers, industry leaders, and community activists from near and far come to take part in this three-day event.
Harlem World Magazine Talks
Our on-going Harlem World Magazine Talks featuring prominent leaders, legends, and trailblazers in Harlem. These in-depth and thoughtful discussions are moderated by the Harlem World team. We cover the most pressing issues facing the community currently, and questions related to these will be constant throughout the yearlong series. Preceding the discussion, coffee is served, allowing time for our distinguished and influential guests to mingle. A Q&A session follows the discussion and allows our audience an additional chance to participate. Admission is free. The series attracts insiders, including lobbyists, professionals, and the media. We record the talks as content for www.harlemworldmagazine.com and broadcast syndication partners, as well as distribute them as podcasts.
Harlem World Magazine Summit + Benefit
Bringing together important and provocative leaders, legends, and trailblazers from a wide variety of disciplines, Harlem’s Summit + Benefit in Harlem offers Harlemites exciting public events and dialogue. Interviews, lectures, debates, and panel discussions will explore major current issues. Each Summit concludes with the annual Harlem World Magazine Benefit for H.Y.P.E., the Harlem Youth Publishing Empowerment program, created by Teachers College Institute for Urban and Minority Education (IUME) Columbia University and Harlem World Magazine. Each year the program recruits and trains Harlem’s next generation of publishers. We record the Summit + Benefit as content for www.harlemworldmagazine.com and broadcast syndication partners, as well as distribute them as podcasts. A Q&A session follows the discussion and allows our audience an additional chance to participate. Admission is free.
All events are audio and video and/or live-streamed and available to view, real-time. Our live stream can also be embedded on your site for presentation.
