In a landmark event held at the National Palace today, Harlem Representative Adriano Espaillat joined President of the Dominican Republic, the Honorable Luis Abinader.
For the signing of a historic collaboration agreement between the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York and the National Museum of Natural History “Prof. Eugenio de Jesús Marcano” (NMNH) in Santo Domingo. Rep. Adriano Espaillat was joined by other dignitaries to witness this significant moment for both nations.
This agreement strengthens ties between the United States and the Dominican Republic, focusing on biodiversity conservation, scientific research, and public education. It represents a shared commitment to protect the environment and promote cross-cultural understanding.
Representative Espaillat remarked: “This partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration between our great nations. It will benefit not only the Dominican Republic and New York but also global efforts to preserve our planet’s rich biodiversity and educate future generations.”
Key attendees included Dr. Sean Michael Decatur, President of the AMNH; Celeste Mir, Director of the NMNH; Dr. Rosa Bonetti de Santana, President of Fundación Propagas; and Carolina Mejía, Mayor of Santo Domingo. The ceremony featured remarks from these leaders and concluded with the formal signing of the agreement, marking a new era of cooperation.
This partnership is expected to inspire joint research, educational programs, and public exhibitions, fostering environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.
Representative Espaillat
Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fourth term in Congress. Representative Espaillat currently serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Committee on Appropriations responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities and serves as Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee of the committee during the 118th Congress.
He is also a member of the House Budget Committee and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), where he serves in a leadership role as the Deputy Chair as well as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). Rep. Espaillat is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) and serves as a Senior Whip of the Democratic Caucus. To find out more about Rep.
