MOVIMIENTO 14 DE JUNIO

Today marks one more anniversary of the 14th of June Movement, a milestone in the history of the country where I was born and raised. This event resonated with countries around the world because its ideals of unity and transformation of our society. The young leaders of the movement, inspired by democratic values and the love of freedom, fought for the progress of their country. They lost their lives in the pursuit of a more just and equitable society.

We shall remember them with expressions of solidarity for countries, peoples and communities living under oppression. Equally important, we must honor those heroes by participating in the democratic process wherever we are and fighting for the working class to live with dignity and become part of the middle class.

Long live Manolo Tavarez, Minerva Mirabal and the men and women who accompanied them in the June 14 movement and faced one of the most cruel dictatorships in Latin America and the world.
