The bathroom is the underdog when it comes to which room gets the most attention in any home, but the fact of the matter is, it deserves just as much pampering.
Needless to say, we use the bathroom a lot, and it probably needs a makeover earlier than any other room. This doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune to do something substantial. There are plenty of tips and tricks that you can utilize to give your bathroom the ultimate makeover, and here are 8 of them.
1. Light Fixtures
Lighting can totally transform and space, and this rings true for your bathroom as well. Because it’s usually a smaller space than most of the other rooms in your home, the lighting here does make a great difference to the overall feel of the bathroom. Keep in mind that you use the mirror as well, so you want more than one fixture, ideally. One that focuses on illuminating your reflection in the mirror, one to illuminate the whole bathroom and you can have another to ensure you have proper lighting in the shower or bathtub.
2. The Walls
There’s no question about the fact that changing the walls will completely transform the appearance of your bathroom. You can either go down the route of using wallpaper, which is a great idea if you want to have patterns put in, or even the illusion of tiling. You could also go for simply getting the walls painted a new coat with the same color, or go for a new color altogether. If you’d like to save up on cash and make it a DIY project, this is totally doable, just make sure that you follow a reliable tutorial. Don’t forget to paint around the toilet carefully so that you don’t end up ruining the toilet itself. You need to get a variety of brushes of different sizes to ensure you’re not messing this up.
Just as the walls transform a bathroom, so does the flooring. The wonderful thing about flooring these days is that you don’t necessarily have to break the floor down and do it from scratch. There are stick-on options that you can simply add to the already existing flooring, and there are options made specifically for the bathroom that are heat and water-resistant.
A backsplash will add so much character and class to any bathroom because it’s a touch of art that stands out. This is a stick-on tiling or wallpaper that is made specifically for the vanity area, and you usually put it right beneath the mirror and where the faucets are. They also serve the practical function of protecting the wall from being damaged from the water that comes into contact with it.
You probably already have a mirror in your bathroom, but you can either opt to have a frame put on it to give it a bit of flair, or think about changing it altogether. You can even think about adding more mirrors in the bathroom. If done correctly, this can give the illusion of space and have your bathroom seem much larger and more spacious than it actually is.
6. Towel Racks
Back in the day we just had one standard design for either hook on the back of the bathroom door or a rod on the wall. These days, there are a few innovative designs that not only look amazing but save up on space as well. You’ll even find racks that actually heat and dry wet towels. This is a great way to upgrade the overall appearance of the bathroom and save on space as well.
There are plenty of smart and innovative storage ideas that can make a small space much more spacious and more practical in terms of neatness. You create more space in storage cabinets by using magnetic fixtures or adding shelving to the inside door of the cabinets. You can also hang laundry baskets of all sizes, so they’re not taking up space on the floor.
This is a great way to utilize every single inch of a limited space, which is usually the case in your bathroom. There are shelving units designed to fit over your toilet and you can get as many as you like installed on the walls.
A bathroom makeover is much more exciting than it seems when you get to it. The suggestions mentioned here will have your bathroom looking brand new before you know it, and you won’t have to break anything or spend a fortune doing so.
