David Forstein, DO, FACOG, was appointed as the third dean of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM), Alan Kadish, M.D., president of the Touro College and University System announced today.
Dr. Forstein, who was most recently Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, has a long history as a medical educator. He served as clerkship director at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and residency director at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville. He was vice chair of clinical operations for the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Greenville Health System and directed the clinical service at the largest provider for women’s healthcare in South Carolina.
Forstein has also held clinical faculty appointments at Clemson University School of Health Research, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine. A widely published author, Dr. Forstein has worked on a number of research projects including a recent NIH funded study.
A leader in the profession, Dr. Forstein is the Vice Chair of the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. He is a former President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists and former Chairman of the Medical Education Foundation of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
As Dean, Dr. Forstein will build upon the pioneering work of Touro’s previous two deans, furthering its mission with the development of new pipeline programs and strengthening the school’s relationship with the local community. He will oversee the educational program from pre-clinical to clinical, student services, faculty research opportunities and alumni affairs.
“I welcome the opportunity to build on the successes already achieved. I plan to initiate educational opportunities that support the College’s mission of serving the underserved and increasing the number of under-represented minorities in medicine. My goal is to grow the existing innovative and engaging educational programs and help osteopathic medical students successfully compete for the residencies of their choice and ultimately, achieve meaningful careers,” said Dr. Forstein.
A 1990 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Forstein completed a rotating internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Pennsylvania Hospital. He is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in both Ob/Gyn and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

TouroCOM was established in Harlem, New York in 2007 a branch location was opened in Middletown, New York, in 2014.
