Help Fund Harlem’s Nyasha Studies Abroad In Cuba!

December 27, 2017

From our partner Sabree Harlem Parents blog:

My name is Nyasha Franklin, and I am from Harlem, NY. I am a junior at Mount Holyoke College, studying Anthropology and Africana Studies.

I have been accepted into a Spanish Studies Abroad Program in Havana, Cuba, for the spring semester, and I am so excited for my trip! During the semester, I will be studying at Universidad de la Habana, improving my Spanish speaking skills and studying the history and culture(s) of Cuba.

I hope to learn more about Afro-Cubans and extend my current studies about the African Diaspora to my 5 month trip! I’m excited to see how my experiences as a Black american in the U.S. relate to those in other countries of the Americas!

Thankfully, I have been able to secure funding from Mount Holyoke to cover part of my tuition while abroad. However I won’t be able to work while I am abroad, so there is still a gap that I am asking for assistance to fill. Any and every donation and share is greatly appreciated.

Books: $50
Transportation: $100
Lunch for the Semester (not included in Room and Board): $ 950
Miscellaneous: $500
Tuition: $1,580
Total = $3,180

This trip will not only afford me an opportunity to further my scholarship, but it will also allow me to explore my independence. I hope to gather a better understanding of myself and where I might fit in the global community!

Thank you all for taking a peek at my gofundme, I hope this page finds you well!

Pce&luv, you are all so very appreciated.

With gratitude, Nyasha
