Harlem Representative Adriano Espaillat Statement On Holocaust Remembrance Day

April 12, 2018

Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat issued the following statement in reflection on the significance of Yom Hashoah:

“Today on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, we take this opportunity to pause and reflect on the systematic genocide of six million Jewish fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters and the impact felt around the world,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13).

“Despite the traumatizing memories they carry, Holocaust survivors continue to educate each of us on the importance of the courage and wisdom required in our efforts to uphold human rights and ensure equal protections for all individuals. As a nation and global community, we are forever indebted to the survivors, especially as the Holocaust moves further into history. It is our duty to ensure that the Holocaust remains present in our minds and our convictions to dismantle hatred to prevent this barbaric injustice from repeating itself.

“As we reflect on this Yom Hashoah, we contemplate the meaning of our vow, ‘never again’ and recommit our work to stand united against all forms of bigotry, hatred, and social injustices today and for all time.”
