Harlem Gets Two New Soccer Fields In NYC Soccer Initiative

Mayor Bill de Blasio soccer initiveNew York City has launched the City Soccer Initiative, a $3 million public-private partnership with the Mayor’s Fund, NYC Football Club, Adidas, and the US Soccer Foundation.

The partnership will build and maintain 50 mini-soccer fields throughout the city’s 5 boroughs over 5 years. Through the US Soccer Foundation’s “Soccer for Success” program, the City will aim to promote development outside the classroom by providing 10,000 youths with opportunities for consistent physical activity, recreation, teamwork, and mentorship. With the assistance of Congressman Charles Rangel two locations will open up in Harlem at Harlem Lane Playground and at P.S. 83 Luis Munoz Rivera School.
